The world went into disbelief on the evening of 19th May when rumours started circulating on the X(twitter) and other online platforms that the Iranian President’s chopper crashed on its return from Azerbaijan after the President attended an inauguration ceremony of a hydroelectric power project.
Although X is unofficially banned in Pakistan, still a good number of users access it by VPNs and other tricks. It was hard to believe for many as the Iranian President visited Pakistan just a couple of days ago and television screens were filled with shots and visits of the Iranian President across the provinces and capital.
Initially there was no clarity regarding the crash and some sources were even claiming that President’s chopper just performed a hard landing due to bad weather conditions. With the passage of time, the chances of survival and hopes for his safe return were slackening and around the sunrise of 20th may, the Iranian state media announced the death of Iranian President, foreign minister alongside other passengers.
Since then On social media platforms including X, Facebook and Instagram lots of rumours have been spreading regarding a possible assassination attempt by Mossad or other hostile foreign agencies to Iran. Although there is no official statement issued until now by the Iranian foreign office or any official spokesperson from Iran, there are lots of questions to be answered.
Iranian President Ibrahim Riasi was not just the President of Iran but he also had been considered as the future successor of Iranian Supreme leader Ayat ullah Ali Khamenei. Within a week there’s been an assassination attempt on the life of Slovakia’s PM, Robert Fico, and a helicopter crash of Iran’s President Ibrahim Raisi. What a coincidence that these incidents happen to two prominent politicians who’ve challenged the “rules-based order.” Why In a convoy of three choppers, it’s the Iranian President’s chopper that apparently had a technical fault and crashed. If the weather conditions were foggy and rainy, why would the Iranian President fly back in a hurry to Iran? The Israeli secret service Mossad has a history of carrying out assistantion attempts against its enemies in different Middle Eastern countries.
Roughly a month ago, for the first time in Iran-Israel history, Iran itself attacked on Israeli soil and many experts were writing that Israel almost let it go unanswered so it could be a calculated retaliation by Israel. If the chopper is being hit by a missile, the remains of the missile which could have used must’ve found around the wreckage of chopper and if Iran and its allies reach to the conclusion that this was an assisination attempt against Iran, congratulations to Netanyahu, probably he’s already got successful to bring in USA in a direct conflict with Iran because Iran must’ve to retaliate if Iran publicly admits it was an assassination attempt.
If Iran and its allies reach a conclusion that the President was targeted by Israel, it will fuel the already burning Middle East and Iran will go to war against Israel. And if Iran goes to war, China and Russia will fully support Iran at least by the means of modern weaponry and technology. This will guarantee a US involvement in this war and this regional war very quickly ger translate into a global war. One more possible Iranian response could be the same attempt on any Israeli high value target, to avoid an all out war against Israel but chances for that kind of response are very limited due to the technological advantage of Israeli Air Force. In case of a full scale war, the most interesting thing to observe will be the role of Arab states. A month ago, the Iranian missile attack on Israel was collectively repulsed by USA, UK, Jordan and unofficially by some Arab countries. Pakistani foreign policy is very passive nowadays due to its internal unstable economic conditions. Pakistan will have to balance between its neighbouring Iran and its non- NATO ally, economic partner USA which is not an easy task by any means.
Pakistan must get prepared for a chaotic near future because it seems matters will get worse and Pakistan is the backyard of this battleground.
